Cold-Weather Apparel Design

During the epic Eastern Sierra winter of 2016-2017, I needed a helmet-compatible, stylish, and colorful accessory to block snow, cold air, and sun from my face and neck while snowboarding. For a girl who needs one of something in every color, the selection of hoods, balaclavas, and neck scarves available online just weren't enough. After many trials sewing different self-drafted patterns, I developed my current design of the Clava Riding Hood to shred the slopes of Mammoth Mountain in style.

Shred Sweater Construction

I had a lot of ideas for women’s snowboarding outerwear as nothing I tried on from major clothing companies fit my criteria: long enough to cover my butt in leggings and in snowboard pants, wide enough to fit my hips in snowboard pants without being baggy in the waist, and a neckline to match my Clava Hoods perfectly. I made small changes to the overall design as I worked, but overall I am happy with the end result. Check out the final photos of my first prototype!
